We know that as designers and consultants, many of you rely on various online tools to get the job done, such as Basecamp and Freshbooks. Wouldn’t it be cool if Slife could serve as the time tracking component of these web apps?
We asked this question a while back and most of you really liked the idea. At the time we were knee-deep in Slife 3.0 planning and it didn’t make sense to work on any sort of integration with a whole new Slife platform on the way.
Last week we released the web-based Slife 3.0, and over the last few days we’ve been adding support for Freshbooks within Slife Web. We are excited to say that it’s now complete! And thanks to the new web nature of Slife, you don’t need to download anything in your setup to take advantage of the integration.
Here’s how it works. Once you log in to Slife Web, you will see a new ‘Services’ button on the button bar:
Click on it and save your Freshbooks API URL and Authentication Token:
You will also notice the presence of a small icon to the right of your activities duration:
This icon is the “Export to Service” icon. When you click on it, it brings up a window that lets you export the activity duration in question to a project/task combination in your Freshbooks account.
That’s all. Once you login to your Freshbooks account, you should see the reported time as a new time entry.
We hope you enjoy this new feature, please send us comments and feedback. In a way, this is just the beginning of a new phase for Slife. With the 3.0 release, one of our goals has been to “open” Slife and make it more universally accessible and useful. We will have more to share soon on that front, so stay close!

Freshbooks is a nice application but I think it is time to look beyond and explore more online invoicing applications like http://www.invoicera.com and http://www.winkbill.com. Both are good alternatives to Freshbooks and offer clutter free online invoicing.

I enter my Freshbooks API information but Slife doesn’t save the settings… no error message.
